Vertu, the flashy luxury phone brand brainchild of Nokia, has launched METAVERTU, “the world’s first Web3 phone”.
The device, which supposedly integrates smart terminals, cryptocurrency mining nodes, separate operating systems for NFT and blockchain, high-end services, and whatever buzzwords you can think of into a single phone, starts at a no-frills $3,300 version. The 18K gold and diamond encrusted Himalayan alligator leather version is $41,500.
For the record, the iPhone 14 Pro and Galaxy S22+ are priced at around $1,000 each.
“We define METAVERTU as Phone, Power Bank, 10T Hard Disk, Dual System Machine, Light Node, NFT Passholder and Privacy Guardian.” the company said.
The Vertu brand started with the idea of what it would be like if a mobile phone were a luxury status symbol like a bag, sunglasses or a car.It was only then that the brand bounced from parent company to parent company, eventually following the path to voluntary liquidation under the leadership of Cyprus-based Turkish company Baferton Ltd. The company is now Chengdu VERTU. It seems to be revived under Business Management Co., Ltd.
The new METAVERTU branding takes the nature of the original Vertu product and takes it a step further, simulating an environment where users feel up close and unrecognizable yet familiar with the world of high fashion.
