Shah Rukh Khan insisted on drinking alcohol to look inebriated while shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas, reveals co-star Tiku Talsania

Shah Rukh Khan fans will rate his performance in Devdas as one of his best. The movie has a place of pride in Bollywood’s film history with its performances, opulent sets and music score. It also established Sanjay Leela Bhansali as one of the greatest filmmakers of Bollywood. His co-star, Tiku Talsania revealed that Shah Rukh Khan did actually consume liquor in some of the scenes to make them look more authentic. It seems the superstar believed that the character’s ‘intoxication’ on screen needed to come through his eyes. Tiku Talsania spills the beans on the shoot of Devdas

In an interview to Digital Commentary, Tiku Talsania who played the part of Dharamdas said that they were shooting in a hot summer afternoon where SRK kept on gulping shots of rum, one after the another. It seems, Talsania told him that he just needed to pretend that he was drunk. Shah Rukh Khan, who was fully in Devdas mode said that he would manage the acting but the alcohol would not show in his eyes if he did not drink. It seems he said, “Sir acting toh ho jayegi. He complimented Shah Rukh Khan’s keen eye for details. He said an actor emotes through his eyes. He said it would be unnatural for Devdas to not have that look of an alcoholic in his eyes.

He also said that Shah Rukh Khan is a genius who goes the extra mile for his character. It seems he would walk into the sets of Devdas with his own analysis and breakdown on the scenes even though Sanjay Leela Bhansali is known to be very thorough.
